If you have enough resources and space, you should invest in a sun tracking solar panel system. They literally turn as the sun moves across the sky. It can be quite costly to put in one of these systems, but you should start to generate a profit in a few years.

Before investing in a solar energy system, determine the cost of installation. Where your'e located will determine whether or not it's financially feasible. When you buy first and do the math later, you may not like the outcome.

Sault Ste Marie

Monday, January 1, 2018 3:01:50 EST PM Al Wood's Hookah Train picked up some serious steam on an Ottawa radio station's Top 50 list of albums released in 2017. The Sault Ste. Marie native's third solo effort cracked the Top 10 on CKCU's year-end ranking of top discs, placing seventh between Taxi's Intimacy Issues and Feist's Pleasure. “Proud to say our Hooka Train album was number 7 on @CKCUFM list of 2017 top albums #awesome,” said Wood in a tweet on Monday afternoon. Wood, who lives in Gatineau, Que., returned home to launch Hookah Train with a Dec. 23 show at LopLops. The disc also features Sault musicians Lindsay Pugh and Frank Deresti. “It means a great deal to be recognized and acknowledged for offering up something we enjoyed making so much and getting some type of confirmation that others picked up on it and liked it themselves,” said Wood in an email to The Sault Star. Hookah Train's nine tracks were recorded in a marathon 17-hour session at an Ottawa studio in November 2016. “If you have a good live performance, the rest will follow,” Wood told The Sault Star in a December interview. “Early into it we just kept rolling and rolling.” The album also earned praise from www.bytownsound.ca , a website that details live music in Ottawa. “It’s hard to imagine that some of these songs aren’t renditions of established tunes, but are in fact, originals,” reads a review. “Wood’s ability to capture the spirit and sound of the blues is remarkable.” Lynne Hanson earned the list's top spot with her album, Uneven Ground. She's played solo dates at LopLops in 2008 and 2010.

As one year ends and another is primed to begin, some of us can, on occasion, be left with mixed emotions. Trepidation, anticipation and uncertainty in a back and forth ebb and flow, can negate any of the best well intentioned New Year’s resolutions. But time waits for no man and as one year goes into the next at the stroke of midnight each Dec. 31, we celebrate the rewards and failures we’ve already experienced while welcoming all those we have not yet lived to encounter. As a cancer survivor now entering my fifth year of remission, while distancing myself from the two primary stage three cancers that had initially sent me off the rails, I feel blessed. Art, specifically drawing, sketching and painting have been part of my identity since I was a preschooler who tried to win a prize by drawing an elephant for a Jon Nagy contest that I watched on our very limited television programming. From there I went on to win a classroom art contest when I was in Grade 3 and my piece was titled, The Teddy Bear’s Picnic.  In hindsight I must say it was dreadful and the fellow I beat out had what I remember to be an engineering masterpiece. He was very, very unhappy. But the rest is history and I eventually added beading, embroidery, leatherworks, poetry, feature writing and art cards to my repertoire. I have a small, cozy studio in the historic Woolworth Building on Queen Street in Sault Ste. Marie. It is a working studio as opposed to a retail space, but you can let me know via text or appointment if you would like to visit me. I am still working as a registered nurse at Sault Area Hospital and as a clinical teacher in the nursing program at Sault College, so I would have to work my visit with you into my schedule. No problem though, because I am old and will eventually run out of steam as nature slows me down. Since I do not know when that will be, let’s laugh out loud on that one, eh?
